City of Newark Pop-Up Play Street
The City of Newark’s Pop-Up Play Street initiative, hosted by the Office of Violence Prevention and Trauma Recovery (OVPTR) in partnership with community organizations and city agencies, transforms neighborhood streets into safe, family-friendly spaces for recreation, learning, and community engagement. The program brings residents together through games, sports, music, arts and crafts, educational activities, and access to valuable community resources. By activating public spaces in neighborhoods throughout Newark, Pop-Up Play Street promotes positive youth development, strengthens community connections, encourages healthy lifestyles, and supports violence prevention efforts through meaningful engagement and neighborhood unity. The initiative is part of Newark’s broader strategy to create safer, healthier communities by fostering trust, increasing community presence, and providing constructive opportunities for children, youth, and families during the summer months.
