What is Safe Summer Academy?
Safe Summer Academy is a summer initiative program for young people ages 14-24. Working alongside community leaders, participants gain hands on experience in community organizing, event planning and social justice work while developing professional skills.

Eligibility Criteria
Has an incarcerated parent
Has a parent released from incarceration within the past two (2) years
Has lost a parent or sibling to violence
Is a victim of violence
Must be a City of Newark resident
Must be between the ages of 14–24 prior to the start of the program
Required Documentation
Social Security card
Birth certificate
Proof of identity (picture ID required; school, city, state, or government-issued IDs are all accepted)
Proof of residence (utility bill, phone bill, cable bill, bank statement, or lease)
Income verification (last three [3] pay stubs, UI benefits/award letter, or a recent W-2)
Proof of employment authorization (one of the following):
Report card dated within the last six (6) months
Official school transcript
NJ driver’s license or non-driver ID
Voter registration card
U.S. military card or draft record
