What is Safe Summer Academy?

Safe Summer Academy is a summer initiative program for young people ages 14-24. Working alongside community leaders, participants gain hands on experience in community organizing, event planning and social justice work while developing professional skills.


EMPLOYMENT APPLICATIOn

Eligibility Criteria

  • Has an incarcerated parent

  • Has a parent released from incarceration within the past two (2) years

  • Has lost a parent or sibling to violence

  • Is a victim of violence

  • Must be a City of Newark resident

  • Must be between the ages of 14–24 prior to the start of the program

Required Documentation

  • Social Security card

  • Birth certificate

  • Proof of identity (picture ID required; school, city, state, or government-issued IDs are all accepted)

  • Proof of residence (utility bill, phone bill, cable bill, bank statement, or lease)

  • Income verification (last three [3] pay stubs, UI benefits/award letter, or a recent W-2)

  • Proof of employment authorization (one of the following):

    • Report card dated within the last six (6) months

    • Official school transcript

    • NJ driver’s license or non-driver ID

    • Voter registration card

    • U.S. military card or draft record
